Baseball sensation Shohei Ohtani of the Los Angeles Dodgers has announced his marriage, ABC News reported.

The 29-year-old star took to Instagram to share the news, stating, “The season is approaching, but I would like to announce to everyone that I have gotten married.”

Ohtani, a major celebrity in Japan, maintained his traditionally private stance on personal matters, withholding details about his new wife.

Ohtani, who recently transitioned from the Los Angeles Angels to the Dodgers in a groundbreaking $700 million, 10-year contract, expressed joy about starting a new chapter in both his career and personal life.

Despite his move to the Dodgers, he emphasised a fresh start with someone special from his native Japan.

“I began a new chapter in my career with the Dodgers, but I also have started a new life with someone from my native country of Japan who is very special to me,” Ohtani shared. He requested that the media refrain from unauthorised interviews.

Accompanying his announcement was a photo featuring his dog “Dekopin” (also known as “Decoy”), expressing hope that the trio – himself, his spouse, and the pet – would work together harmoniously.

The news, breaking during the night in North America and late afternoon in Japan, quickly became a top headline on local television. Ohtani, revered for his unprecedented success in North America, has become a symbol of pride for Japan, and the Dodgers are now considered Japan’s de facto team.

Currently undergoing training in Arizona for the upcoming Major League Baseball season, Ohtani’s focus shifts to his role as a designated hitter due to recent elbow surgery, preventing him from pitching this season. Despite the setback, his impressive track record as a two-way player and numerous accolades, including the American League MVP in 2021 and 2023, continues to draw comparisons to baseball legend Babe Ruth.
