With iconic fashion shows, celebrity fashion moments, and innovative collaborations taking centre stage in 2024, the world of Indian fashion was all about creating magical moments.
As we say goodbye to 2024, here’s a look at 10 fashion moments that stole the show this year.
Rohit Bal Grand Finale Showcase
The audience witnessed an extraordinary fusion of fashion and beauty, where Rohit Bal’s signature craftsmanship met the grace and poise of Lakmē Beauty X Fashion philosophy. His much-awaited collection, Kaaynaat: A Bloom in the Universe, left audiences spellbound, celebrating the boundless beauty of nature and the delicate elegance of flowers.
Kaaynaat was his ode to nature which was beautifully captured in an array of festive silhouettes. From flora and fauna motifs enhanced with rich, handcrafted textiles, the collection celebrated Rohit’s storytelling through couture. Ananya Panday turned showstopper for the couturier and joined in the celebration on the runway as the master craftsman grooved to the song, Afterglow. A moment that will live forever in everybody’s heart.
Alia Bhatt in Sabyasachi at MET Gala 2024
After making a stunning MET Gala debut in 2023 dressed in Prabal Gurung, Alia Bhatt celebrated the biggest night in fashion in 2024, in a custom Sabyasachi couture saree and jewellery. Styled by Anaita Shroff Adajania, Alia graced the iconic MET Gala stairs in the drape that resonated with the red-carpet dress code theme ‘The Garden of Time’. The couture saree took 1965 man-hours and around 163 artisans to bring this vision to life.
“When I thought of the dress code ‘Garden of Time’, I felt it needed something timeless and nothing is more timeless than a sari. It has taken a lot of love, labour and a lot of effort and anything that takes a lot of love and time lasts forever, just like the garden of time,” expressed Alia, when she was asked about her iconic MET Gala 2024 look.
Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla x Artist Jayasri Burman x Rhea Kapoor
Radhika Merchant’s Shubh Aashirwad lehenga was a beautiful amalgamation of art, culture, and bridal opulence. Envisioned by Rhea Kapoor, the highlight of this traditionally crafted Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla ensemble was the intricate hand-painted artwork created on Italian canvas by renowned artist Jayasri Burman.
The pink lehenga featured 12 artistic panels depicting Anant Ambani’s union with Radhika through deeply meaningful imagery. The human figures representing the happy couple radiated a celestial aura that honoured the divinity of their humanity. The fauna depicts Anant’s fondness for animals, particularly elephants that are considered auspicious and beautiful. The lotuses in their blushing hue convey a sublime ode to the purity of the couple’s hearts.
The craftsmanship featured meticulous hand embroidery of real gold zardozi. A glittering sea of sequins shines over the most intricate spaces of Jayasri’s art. Radhika paired the lehenga with a blouse hand-embroidered entirely in resham by master craftsmen at Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla.
péro x Hello Kitty collaboration
Global pop culture icon Hello Kitty joined forces with péro, one of India’s most celebrated fashion labels. The two brands came together to launch the exclusive ‘péro x Hello Kitty’ apparel collection.
Designed around the concept of ‘Cottage Core Kawaii,’ Kawaii, which means Cute in Japanese, was beautifully woven into the world of pero at the opening show of Lakme Fashion Week x FDCI in New Delhi. The venue was transformed into a péro x Hello Kitty wonderland where the iconic character found its way into the Indian fashion landscape. Every statement piece created for the show exuded the enduring characteristics of Hello Kitty and the nuanced yet quirky style of péro.
Adele in Gaurav Gupta Couture
Returning to the Colosseum at Caesars Palace for her 2024 “Weekends with Adele” residency, Adele stepped on stage in Gaurav Gupta couture. Celebrating the artistry of Indian couture on the global stage, the Cosmic Black Saturn Orbit Gown took over 93 hours to craft. Adele’s gown featured a sculptural asymmetric off-shoulder drape adorned with intricate three-dimensional bugle bead embroidery and 2,880 hand-set crystals
“Dressing Adele for the opening night of her Las Vegas residency is an extraordinary honour and a defining moment for us. Her voice, presence, and grace align perfectly with the cosmic, timeless beauty we aim to capture in our couture. This gown is not just a creation; it is a celebration of art, music, and the magic of global couture,” expressed Gaurav Gupta.
Amit Aggarwal’s The Banarasi Edit Collection
Kareena Kapoor Khan, Isha Ambani, and Ananya Panday looked resplendent in Amit Aggarwal’s innovative creations from the Banarasi Edit collection. Reimagining the iconic Banarasi saree through the lens of innovation, Amit Aggarwal’s Banarasi Edit embodies the cyclical nature of time and the Hindu philosophy of reincarnation.
The Banarasi Edit beautifully merged tradition with modernity, breathing new life into pre-loved textiles. Thus, making it one of the best collections in 2024. Each piece tells a story of reincarnation, reflecting the rich heritage of Banarasi weaves while embracing contemporary design. By reimagining these vintage sarees into structured drapes, Amit Aggarwal honors their timeless essence while introducing innovative elements.
Jennifer Lopez in Manish Malhotra Couture and Jewellery
The iconic Jennifer Lopez celebrated her birthday in unparalleled Bridgerton style in a Manish Malhotra custom couture. Crafted by 40 artisans over 3,490 hours, the corset and the regency skirt with vintage brocade featured a floral motif moulded by hand from sequins and over half a million crystals. Petal and ring-shaped metal sequins were specially treated to preserve their hue to craft this ensemble, a celebration of intricate artistry and Indian craftsmanship.
At the Atlas movie premiere, Jennifer enhanced her monochrome look with Manish Malhotra High Jewellery featuring the iconic ILENA necklace set featuring special cut 165 ct emeralds and an array of trillion-cut diamonds.
Model Neelam Kaur Gill at Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show
Making history on the international runway, British-Indian model Neelam Kaur Gill became the first Punjabi to grace the 2024 Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show. The iconic show returned after a five-year hiatus and the event embraced a new era of inclusivity and cultural evolution. Neelam stood out on the runway as she shared the stage with renowned models such as Tyra Banks, Kate Moss, Gigi, and Bella Hadid among others.
Tamannaah Bhatia x Torani
Captivating unconditional love and faith, label Torani’s vision for the collection, Leela: The Divine Illusion of Love was beautifully brought to life by actor Tamannaah Bhatia. The campaign which was shared on Instagram by Karan Torani was a celebration of the rasa that Radhe Shyam represented.
A series of traditional and alluring designs with Torani as its storyteller celebrated the greatest love story of all time. A creative genius and one of the most talented designers in the country, Torani’s campaign embodied the divine love that eludes all boundaries.
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan at L’Oreal Paris Show
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan graced the L’Oréal Paris’ Le Défilé runway show at the iconic Place de l’Opéra looking radiant in red. This year’s runway theme ‘Walk Your Worth’ promoted self-worth and solidarity among women worldwide.
The show aligned with L’Oréal Paris’ mission of empowering women to embrace their unique individuality. Aishwarya’s hair was styled in a bouncy blowout as she wore a stunning red, bubble-hemmed Mossi gown with a cape displaying the brand slogan – ‘We Are Worth It’. Aishwarya Rai Bachchan flaunted her Classic French makeup.
