For those living along the highway, the buses stop at several major intersections. This “city-style” stopping pattern is what differentiates BMTC service from KSRTC long routes.

The commute between Bengaluru and its neighbouring towns is undergoing a major shift. Public transportation networks are expanding beyond traditional city limits. Ramanagara and Kanakapura have long served as vital extensions of the state capital.
They house thousands of professionals, students, and business owners. These residents navigate the busy highways every single day. This expansion responds to shifting demographics as urban boundaries continue to blur.
Relief for the Daily Commuter
The arrival of the BMTC in these regions is a long-awaited relief. Historically, the journey into the heart of Bengaluru was a test of endurance. Commuters previously relied almost entirely on KSRTC buses.
While reliable, these buses were often overwhelmed by passenger volume. During peak hours, they were frequently packed beyond capacity. This made the long journey physically taxing for those heading to work or college.
The new Vajra Vistara air-conditioned services offer a better experience. These premium buses run from Majestic to Ramanagara and Banashankari to Kanakapura. The transit experience moves from a struggle for space to a climate-controlled environment.
This change is significant for those who have endured years of highway heat. The corporation made this possible by increasing its operational limit to 45 kilometres.
Meeting Rising Public Demand
Demand for this service grew after several state-led transit initiatives. More people shifted from private vehicles to public transport. The existing infrastructure felt the resulting strain.
Residents and student groups became vocal about the need for better connectivity. They argued that their lives are inextricably linked to the Bengaluru economy. They required a transport system that treated them as part of the urban fabric.
The logic behind this expansion is clear when looking at the existing map. BMTC already had a strong presence in Bidadi and Harohalli. Ramanagara sits just 15 kilometres beyond Bidadi.
Kanakapura is located only 18 kilometres from Harohalli. This extension bridges a small geographical gap that was once a major hurdle. The network now provides a seamless link directly into central business districts.
Fare and Route Details
The new services operate under the “Vajra Vistara” (AC) brand, which means fares are calculated based on the standard BMTC AC distance slabs. For the extended 45 km radius, the fare structure is as follows:
| Route | Starting Point | Destination | Estimated Fare (AC) |
| Majestic to Ramanagara | Kempegowda Bus Station | Ramanagara District Stadium | ₹85 – ₹95 |
| Banashankari to Kanakapura | Banashankari TTMC | Kanakapura Town | ₹70 – ₹85 |
Note: Non-AC services (where available) typically cost 40-50% less than the AC fares listed above.
Bus Timings and Frequency
To cater to the high volume of daily commuters, the corporation has established a schedule that prioritizes peak-hour travel.
- First Bus: 6:30 AM
- Last Bus: 9:45 PM
- Frequency: Every 30 to 45 minutes during peak hours (morning and evening).
- Banashankari to Kanakapura:
- First Bus: 6:00 AM
- Last Bus: 10:15 PM
- Frequency: Approximately every 20 to 30 minutes, as this route leverages existing traffic towards the Art of Living and Harohalli sectors.
Key Boarding Points
For those living along the highway, the buses stop at several major intersections. This “city-style” stopping pattern is what differentiates the BMTC service from the KSRTC long-distance buses.
- Ramanagara Route Stops: Majestic, Satellite Bus Stand (Mysore Road), Rajarajeshwari Nagar Gate, Kengeri TTMC, Bidadi, and Ramanagara.
- Kanakapura Route Stops: Banashankari TTMC, Konanakunte Cross, Thalaghattapura, Kaggalipura, Harohalli, and Kanakapura.
A More Integrated Way of Living
For the modern traveller, this means a more integrated lifestyle. Students can now travel more safely to city colleges. Professionals can use their commute time more effectively in a quiet setting. As these buses begin regular rotations, reliance on overcrowded alternatives will drop. The daily trek between these hubs and Bengaluru is now a more efficient experience.
