Raj Kapoor ascended to become the greatest showman of Indian cinema through his iconic work in movies such as Awara, Sargam, Mera Naam Joker and others. Renowned for his passion for producing and directing films with innovative storylines and compelling content, he is also hailed as one of the filmmakers who elevated the romantic genre in Bollywood. Kapoor’s impeccable charm and dynamic dance moves transported audiences into a realm of fantasy, where they envisioned themselves emulating his charismatic performances. The iconic song Pyar Hua Iqrar Hua immortalises Kapoor and Nargis sharing an umbrella on a rainy evening, symbolising eternal romance in black and white. The use of umbrellas in the song became emblematic of the era’s style, reportedly leading to an increase in umbrella sales post-release. Penned by Shailendra and sung by Lata Mangeshkar and Manna Dey, the song’s melodies evoke timeless sentiments of love and commitment. Additionally, the film’s soundtrack, composed by Shankar-Jaikishan, featured another cult hit, Mera Juta Hai Japani.
