Meghan Markle’s new lifestyle brand American Riviera Orchard has suffered a major setback after its trademark was rejected ahead of its official launch.

The US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) rejected its trademark application as businesses cannot operate using the names of real places, The Telegraph reports.

American Riviera is often used to refer to Santa Barbara, California, where the Duchess of Sussex lives with her husband Prince Harry and their two children.

News of the setback comes as Prince William returned to work sporting a stubble on a visit to a homelessness exhibition in his first official engagement since the summer break.

William first revealed the rugged look in a surprise video with Kate last month as they congratulated Team GB on their Olympic success.

The markedly more casual look sparked controversy online, with some royal fans pleading with him to keep the stubble while others sarcastically saying he looked as if he was in “vacation mode”.

The unseen letter that shows Harry may find it hard to escape a lifetime of unhappiness

A friend was said to have suggested he might even perform “very low-key royal duties” to rebuild public trust and help out with the family’s dwindling personnel problem.

However, rumours of this “Comeback Campaign” were swiftly rebutted by other sources close to the Duke of Sussex who insist he has “no interest” in returning home, nor resuming royal duties.

As rumours swirl of Prince Harry’s ‘comeback campaign’, royal history and tradition tell us that there is only one path available to him – and possibly one person who can now bridge the divide between him and his brother.

Queen jokes dancers ‘showed her up’ during visit to the English National Ballet

The Queen joked about her ballet skills and that she had been “showed up” by dancers, during a visit to the English National Ballet (ENB).

Camilla smiled as she watched dancers rehearse for their upcoming production of the Nutcracker during the visit to the company’s Mulryan Centre for Dance in east London on Thursday.

The Queen wore a light blue long-sleeved dress with a gold ballerina brooch and spoke about her love of dance throughout the visit with performers, tutors and the company’s directors.

“I’ve got my tap shoes, and so I’m happy,” she remarked while watching one of the practices.

Meghan Markle’s lifestyle brand refused trademark

Meghan Markle’s new lifestyle brand has hit another alleged stumbling block after being refused a trademark.

While American Riviera Orchard has yet to put any of its products on official sale, several have been teased on social media, including jam and dog biscuits.

The US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) turned down the application as businesses cannot trademark locations, The Telegraphreports.

“American Riviera” is commonly used to refer to Santa Barbra, California, where the former actress lives with her family.

The Independent has reached out to a representative for the Duchess of Sussex for comment.

William’s stubble a reminder of row with brother

Prince William has sported a stubble on his first official engagement following his summer holiday.

The trimmed beard may symbolise more than just a change in his look however, as the heir to the throne is said to have previously argued with his now-estranged brother, Prince Harry, over facial hair in the past.

The Duke of Sussex has claimed his brother William was jealous of his beard and ordered him to shave it off before he married Meghan in 2018.

Harry wrote in his autobiography Spare how William became “livid” and “raised his voice” when the duke said he had already asked permission from their grandmother, the late Queen Elizabeth II, to keep his beard for his wedding.

The duke said the argument went on for more than a week on the phone and in person, adding: “He wouldn’t let it go. At one point he actually ordered me, as the heir speaking to the spare, to shave.”

He claimed William “hated” the idea that he was allowed to keep his beard – a perk denied to William.

William backs Blue Peter Earthshot contest to find young change-makers

Children’s TV show Blue Peter is kicking off a search for young environmentalists, whose winning ideas on creating a sustainable future will be recognised by the Prince of Wales’s Earthshot Prize.

The BBC competition invites children aged five to 15 to submit an original proposal which aims to achieve one of the five goals set out by the William’s Earthshot Prize – Protect And Restore Nature; Clean Our Air, Revive Our Oceans; Build A Waste-Free World; and Fix Our Climate.

There will be five winners, one for each Earthshot category, the BBC said.

“I started the Earthshot Prize to search for solutions to the world’s biggest environmental challenges and we want to find the next generation of young inventors who can make a change,” William said.

The royal founded the Earthshot Prize environmental award in 2020 with a 10-year mission to find ways to protect and repair the environment with innovative solutions.

Prince William returns to work with new look

The Prince of Wales thanked artists for taking part in a groundbreaking homelessness exhibition as he sported his summer beard in public for the first time.

William debuted his new look in an online video with his wife Kate in August, when they praised the achievements of the nation’s athletes after the Paris Olympics.

The stubble was still in place as he toured Homelessness: Reframed, an exhibition that aims to give a fresh perspective on the issue, with sculptures, photographs and everyday objects given a new life by artists who may have slept rough.

William’s Homewards project, which aims to develop a blueprint for eradicating homelessness in all its forms, is the driving force behind the art exhibition which opened at the Saatchi Gallery in London in August.

The beard of the future King, who turned 42 in June, had flecks of grey and looked neatly trimmed to the same length as in his video appearance last month.

Prince Harry ‘should drop out of public life’

A former royal aide has claimed that if the Duke of Sussex wants privacy, he should “drop out of public life and keep his mouth shut”.

This comes after Harry, who turns 40 this month, said that press intrusion and a desire to live a more independent life were behind his decision to step down as a working royal in 2020.

Patrick Jephson, who formerly worked for Princess Diana, told Grazia magazine that the duke should get a normal job and stop appearing at high-profile events.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have ‘made a lot of missteps’

Kinsey Schofield made the comments amid claims that Prince Harry misses his old life in the UK and would consider a “part-time” role in the royal family if asked by King Charles.

“He’s doing it because Americans did not welcome them in the way that they initially thought they would,” she said, as reported by the Express.

“I think they’ve made a lot of missteps over the last few years, and they’re not having the life that they thought they were going to.

“I don’t think the ‘American Dream’ has come to fruition for them the way that they thought it would and Prince Harry 1725624793 realises that he was a valuable asset as a member of the Royal Family and that really gave him purpose.”
