Florida and Todd Golden have agreed to a two-year contract extension, tying the men’s basketball coach to the school through the 2029-30 season, sources told ESPN on Thursday, confirming multiple reports.
A source told ESPN’s Jeff Borzello that Golden will make over $4 million per year under the new deal. He was making $3 million annually under his initial Florida contract that started in 2021-22 following three seasons at San Francisco.
In his second year as coach, Golden has led the Gators to a 21-10 record and what will likely be their first NCAA tournament appearance since the 2020-21 season. Florida is a No. 7 seed in the latest projected bracket from ESPN’s Joe Lunardi.
Florida plays its first SEC tournament game Thursday when it faces Georgia in the second round (9:30 p.m. ET, SEC Network).
Golden overhauled Florida’s roster before Year 2 through the transfer portal, adding first-team All-SEC point guard Zyon Pullin (UC Riverside) along with leading scorer Walter Clayton Jr. (Iona) and big men Tyrese Samuel (Seton Hall) and Micah Handlogten (Marshall).
Golden also found success on the recruiting trail with promising forwards Alex Condon and Thomas Haugh. Condon was named to the league’s all-freshman team.
Under Golden’s direction, Florida has its highest-scoring team in program history. Pullin is on pace to post the SEC’s best assist-to-turnover ratio (4.38 to 1) in any season, and Clayton (17 PPG) is locked into one of the top 25 scoring seasons in program history while hitting at least three 3-pointers in 12 of 18 conference games.
