MS Dhoni scripts history with 300th dismissal in T20 cricket

Chennai Super Kings MS Dhoni extends his record of most dismissals by a wicketkeeper in T20 format to 300 during the IPL 2024 match against Delhi Capitals at ACA-VDCA Stadium in Visakhapatnam on Sunday.

He is the only keeper to record 300 dismissals in this format. The next best record to Dhoni is by Dinesh Karthik and Kamran Akmal – 274.

The dismissal came when the 42-year-old Dhoni caught Prithvi Shaw’s outside edge off Ravindra Jadeja.

List of most dismissals by a wicketkeeper in T20s:
1) MS Dhoni – 300

2) Dinesh Karthik – 274

3) Kamran Akmal – 274

4) Quinton de Kock – 270

5) Jos Buttler – 209

Dhoni can arguably be considered the face of the Chennai Super Kings, having led the franchise to victory in the IPL trophy a record five times, jointly holding the most wins alongside the Mumbai Indians.

In the 2024 edition of the cash-rich league, Dhoni continues to participate, although the captaincy mantle has been passed to Ruturaj Gaikwad, a batter from Maharashtra.

The native of Ranchi has yet to bat in the 17th edition. However, his performance as a wicketkeeper in the clash against the Gujarat Titans garnered attention.

Notably, the wicketkeeper-batter dove to his right on the third ball of the eighth over in Gujarat’s innings, dismissing Vijay Shankar with a full-stretch catch measuring 2.27 metres off Daryl Mitchell’s bowling. Later in the game, experienced batter Ajinkya Rahane also took an impressive catch in the outfield, sending David Miller back to the pavilion.

Meanwhile, CSK has emerged victorious in both of their matches so far, leading the table with 4 points. Following a convincing win against the Royal Challengers Bangalore in the tournament opener, they secured a clinical victory against the 2023 runners-up.
