5 new podcasts to listen to this week

Whether you are into architecture, football, history or TV, there’s a podcast pick for everyone.

1. An Architect’s Perspective

Streaming platform: All streaming platforms and YouTube

Genre: Architecture

Are you interested in architecture, modern history, and how a building came to be? Then An Architect’s Perspective, hosted by architect James Hamilton, may broaden your world view.

The cinematic podcast series does a great job blending the visual immersion of Grand Designs with the reflective depth of Desert Island Discs, and takes audiences on a tour inside some of the world’s most iconic and celebrated modernist buildings.

Each cinematic walkthrough is filmed on site in locations such as Norway, Spain and India, and followed by an interview with an expert connected to the project.

On this week’s episode, Hamilton sits down with architect and writer John Pardey to discuss one of the most “quietly radical” houses in Mallorca, Can Lis, the clifftop home of architect Jørn Utzon, who designed the Sydney Opera House.

True to the podcast’s name, the pair discuss everything from how Utzon was inspired by nature and his building methods, meeting Utzon for the first time and the origin of Pardey’s decorated career – he started drawing as a child.

If you’ve ever been curious about An Architect’s Perspective, give this new podcast a listen.

2. Paradise Official Podcast

Streaming platform: All streaming platforms, YouTube and Disney

Genre: Entertainment and TV

When creator Dan Fogelman’s post-apocalyptic thriller series Paradise first hit our screens, it quickly garnered attention for its blend of political intrigue and sci-fi mystery.

Now, with the launch of its second series, a new podcast series, Paradise Official Podcast, hosted by star and super-fan Ryan Michelle Bathé, has been created to follow up each episode.

The Paradise Official Podcast will feature interviews with the cast, creative team and scientific consultants from the series as they break down the twists and turns, share exclusive behind-the-scenes moments, and tease what’s to come in the rest of the season.

In the second episode – the first was a recap of season one – Shailene Woodley, who stars as survivor Annie, joins Bathé to discuss the surprising season two premiere, streaming on Disney+ and Hulu.

They talk about why the series feels so much like a film, and questions viewers may have whilst watching the first episode, before Thomas Doherty, who plays the mysterious Link, joins the conversation.

If you enjoy listening to TV companion podcasts, then Paradise Official Podcast is the perfect listen.

3. Queens, Kings and Dastardly Things – The Kennedy Curse

Streaming platform: All streaming platforms

Genre: History and politics

How did the Kennedy family go from impoverished Irish immigrants to one of the most powerful political dynasties in US history? They were the ultimate embodiment of the American dream but were haunted by tragedy.

In The Kennedy Curse, a three-episode special for the Queens, Kings and Dastardly Things podcast, historian Kate Williams and royal biographer Robert Hardman chart the family’s ascent to power, and how their legacy was tainted by often violent deaths and political and sexual scandals. Called the ‘Kennedy curse’ – yet arguably, many incidents were down to hubris and risky behaviour; as Hardman opines, ‘In a big family of over-overachievers, some will come a cropper.’

The assassination of President John F Kennedy in 1963 while in a motorcade beside wife Jackie was a defining 20th-century moment, but the podcast first dives into a time before privilege and power, when JFK’s great-grandparents left famine-ravaged Ireland in the late 1840s for a new life in Boston – sowing the seeds for future generations to build social acceptance, wealth and power.

Most fascinating is architect of the Kennedy trajectory, patriarch Joseph – father of JFK – who ruthlessly groomed his sons for political power and raised all his children to believe second best wasn’t an option.

Gripping and entertaining, there is enough heartbreak, scandal and skeletons in cupboards to keep history buffs invested.

4. Could It Be Magic?

Streaming platform: All streaming platforms and YouTube

Genre: Sports

Former England teammates Joe Cole and Ashley Cole have returned with season two of their popular FA Cup podcast, Could It Be Magic?

In the latest episode, their former Chelsea and England teammate Wayne Bridge joins the pair to talk about their love for English rock band Oasis, the third round of the FA Cup, and why they prefer playing on artificial grass.

They also reflect on the rise of young coaches and managers, Bridge’s career – where he played in two FA Cup finals – for Southampton in 2003, and winning it alongside Ashley and Joe as Chelsea Football Club defeated Manchester United in 2007.

It was fun listening to the trio also discuss their time at Chelsea together, and Bridge opening up about winning Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins in 2019 and what it demanded from him both mentally and physically.

The co-hosts also play a competitive pub classic game of beer mat flipping.

If you are a football fan looking for an informative and entertaining podcast, then put Could It Be Magic? on your list.

5. In The Room

Streaming platform: All streaming platforms and YouTube

Genre: Politics

The world of politics is never quiet, but even by normal standards, the past few weeks have been noisy, messy and, quite frankly, unprecedented.

For the Prime Minister, it’s been a tricky start to 2026. But what goes on behind the door of Number 10? And how does he navigate it all?

Well wonder no more, with the launch of the new podcast In The Room, which is presented by two women who have worked at the heart of Westminster and Whitehall and are happy to share some behind-the-scenes secrets into the world of global politics.

Helen MacNamara, former Deputy Cabinet Secretary, and Cleo Watson, former Deputy Chief of Staff to Boris Johnson, may well have come from different sides of the table, but for this podcast, they join together to share their vast knowledge of all things political.

The first episode examines Keir Starmer’s position as PM, in light of party U-turns, resignations and the tangled web of Mandelson, Mountbatten-Windsor and the Epstein Files.

Is there a way out of the woods for Starmer? Perhaps it’s time to, in the words of MacNamara, “dance like no one’s watching”. At a time of such flux, some backbone is needed. Go big or go home. But will ‘home’ remain at Number 10?
